Brooke Bailey
Brooke Bailey, 33, had Type 1 diabetes, her mother Stacey Bailey said. She was found dead in her cell at the Cooper County Jail on October 27, 2023, and an autopsy attributed her death to diabetic ketoacidosis with hyponatremia. Court documents allege that jail staff, including a supervisor, did not get her medical care despite her repeated requests and discouraged others from helping her. Her mother said she called the jail repeatedly to warn staff that her daughter was diabetic, and a jury found a jail supervisor guilty of involuntary manslaughter, with sentencing set for April 3. Her daughter, Paige Folker, said the family wants accountability.
