Brian Heath Roundtree
Brian Heath Roundtree, 43, was a musician who fronted the band Fujita Scale, a production manager at a magazine, and the father of several children. He was held at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility in January 2018, and after a court hearing he was moved from suicide watch into general population. On the night of January 18, a cell cleaner found him hanging by the neck, and the Arapahoe County coroner said his death was consistent with suicide by hanging. His family's lawyer disputes that the death was unavoidable, and their civil suit alleged that Correct Care Solutions staff falsely documented his medical status and that the death was preventable. The county said he was offered the same suicide screening and services as others, and settled the suit for $85,000.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (disputed; neglect alleged). The sheriff's office and county ruled it a suicide by hanging, while the family's attorney Erica Grossman disputes that the death was unavoidable and their lawsuit says Correct Care Solutions staff falsely documented his medical status and that the death was preventable.
Reported by: Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Arapahoe County coroner (medical examiner or coroner); family's attorney Erica Grossman and family's lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
