Brian Clark
Brian Clark, 44, died on January 17, 2020, while in the custody of El Paso County, and sources say he had several heart conditions. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said deputies restrained him while a safety smock was being switched, and that he then had a major cardiac event while seated in a chair. An El Paso County coroner's autopsy later classified his death as a homicide following a physical altercation after deputies used a Taser on him. That finding conflicts with the Sheriff's Office account of his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff (disputed). The El Paso County coroner ruled his death a homicide following a physical altercation after deputies used a Taser on him, while the Sheriff's Office says he had a major cardiac event while seated in a chair after deputies restrained him.
Reported by: El Paso County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); El Paso County coroner (medical examiner or coroner).
