Brent Brewer
Brent Ray Brewer, 53, was executed by lethal injection by the State of Texas at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville on November 9, 2023, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. His lawyers said he had been a model prisoner with no history of violence, had taken part in a faith-based program for men on death row, and had long expressed remorse and a wish to apologize to the family of the man killed in 1990. His lawyers argued that expert testimony used at his resentencing was false and unscientific, but the state appeals court declined to reach that claim and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene. Members of the victim's family watched the execution, and in a final statement Brewer apologized to them.
