30 years old · died October 19, 2022 · Myrtle Beach Jail, Horry County, South Carolina

Brandon Campbell, 30, died on October 19, 2022, after being held at the Myrtle Beach jail in Horry County, South Carolina. According to his estate's federal lawsuit, Myrtle Beach police took him to the city jail after officers found him passed out in a park and noted he needed medical help, and the lawsuit says he was jailed without the required medical examination and died in a holding cell about five hours later. The Horry County Coroner's Office earlier said he died at a hospital rather than in a cell. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's spokesperson, Renée Wunderlich, cited a toxicology report giving the cause as the combined toxic effects of fentanyl and ethanol, and the city and county declined to comment on the pending litigation.
