Brad Sigmon
Brad Sigmon, 67, was a man of faith who, in his final statement, called on Christians to help end the death penalty. His lawyers and supporters described him as a model prisoner trusted by guards, who worked every day to atone for his crimes. On March 7, 2025, he was executed by firing squad at Broad River Correctional Institution in South Carolina, the first execution by that method in the state, after Governor Henry McMaster denied clemency. His lawyers argued that he chose the firing squad over the electric chair or lethal injection and that he committed his crimes while severely mentally ill, and anti-death penalty advocates urged clemency and called the method barbaric.
