Brack Kinley
Brack Kinley was a Black man held in the McCracken County jail in Paducah, Kentucky. In October 1916 a mob broke into the jail, took him from his cell and hanged him, according to newspaper accounts. The Hartford Herald reported that the jailer and deputies were held at bay while the cell bars were chiseled, and the Tulsa Daily World reported that officers were covered with guns and the cell keys were taken from them. Accounts differ on the date, with some giving October 10 and others October 16, and on the size of the crowd, which papers estimated from about one hundred to several thousand. Newspapers also reported that his body was burned afterward.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. A 1916 newspaper account says a mob of about 100 men stormed the McCracken County jail, held the jailer and deputies at bay, took Brack Kinley from his cell, shot and hanged him, and burned his body.
