Bork

died September 4, 1894 · Watertown jail, Codington County, South Dakota

Bork was held in the Watertown jail in South Dakota after being taken near Castlewood. The Madison Daily Leader reported that around 11 o'clock on the night of September 4, 1894, masked men took him from the jail while officers offered no resistance. The Reporter and Farmer gave the date as the Monday night before, September 3, and said the group did not wear masks.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took him from the Watertown jail and hanged him from a light pole, with the jail officers offering no resistance, according to the accounts; a coroner's inquest had not reached a verdict.
