Bodie Bates
Bodie Bates was held in the jail at Pittsboro, Mississippi, when a mob came for him early on Monday, August 5, 1935. According to the Atlanta Daily World, the turnkey was overpowered and his keys were taken, and the mob removed Bates from the jail and killed him. Sheriff Jack W. Powell said he had few details of the killing. As of the report, no arrests had been made and no member of the mob had been identified.
