Bob

Bob was taken from the jail by Sheriff Latta and hanged on a scaffold near Greenwood Cemetery in Columbia, Tennessee, in front of a crowd that The Columbia Herald estimated at 10,000 to 12,000. Ministers read scripture, sang and prayed with him, and the paper says he wore a new black suit provided by the sheriff, went up the scaffold steps, and spoke briefly, thanking those present and saying he was ready to go. According to the paper, he maintained his innocence to the end.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Columbia Herald reports that Sheriff Latta took him from the jail and he was hanged on a scaffold before a crowd the paper estimated at 10,000 to 12,000.
