Billy Michael Sell
Billy Michael Sell, 32, known to those who knew him as "Guero," died on July 22, 2013, while held in the Security Housing Unit at California State Prison, Corcoran. He had taken part in a statewide hunger strike against long-term solitary confinement, which ran from July 8 to July 21 according to the state's later confirmation. The Kings County Coroner said he died by hanging and that the death was a suicide. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation first said he was not on hunger strike at the time of his death, then confirmed that he had been on strike during those dates.
