Bill Johnson
A Waco, Texas dispatch reprinted in the Baxter Springs News in January 1895 reports that Bill Johnson was shot several times and then taken from a jail by a lynch mob and hanged while still alive. The dispatch says a trapper later found a petrified body in sand near the Brazos River, and that a doctor who handled it before burial recognized it as his. The Wichita Daily Eagle, reporting the same Waco account, says matching bullet wounds were the basis for the identification.
