Big Nose George
Big Nose George was held in the Rawlins jail in Carbon County, Wyoming, when a mob took him from the jail and hanged him from a telegraph pole near a store. A 1921 Rawlins Republican article says he was taken from the jail one evening and hanged, and describes the hanging as stern justice watched by a young lawyer then in town. Neither account says whether jail staff resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed him over.
