Big Nose George
Big Nose George was held in a Wyoming jail when, according to a Cheyenne Leader dispatch reprinted in the Press and Daily Dakotaian, a group of masked men took him out late on the night of March 22, 1881. The dispatch says the men carried him to a telegraph pole near the railroad shops, threw a rope over a crossarm, and hanged him from a ladder they pulled out from under him. The dispatch describes the mob as masked men and gives no account of the jailers' response.
