Biddle Gist

Biddle Gist died in January 1910 at a county chain gang camp on the York road near Chester, South Carolina. A report from Chester, printed in the Columbia State and reprinted in the Yorkville Enquirer, said a stick of dynamite caught fire while being thawed and exploded, killing Gist instantly. The same blast killed another man, and the report said it knocked a guard down. The report describes the explosion as an accident.
