Benjamin Edwards
Benjamin Edwards, a Norfolk native, died on December 28, 2020, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital after being held at Nottoway Correctional Center in Burkeville, Virginia. His family says he contracted COVID-19 while in prison, that his health declined after a fall from a top bunk, and that he was denied early release although a job and a home were waiting for him. His son, Benjamin Williams, and his brother, Ronald Lee Jackson, spoke about him, and a longtime friend, Kimberly Tucker, said a job and a house were ready for him. The Virginia Department of Corrections declined to comment on his health.
