Bell

Bell was held at the Pierre jail in Pierre, Hughes County, South Dakota. The Miller Sun reported in November 1905 that men from Harrold and east Hughes County came to the jail at night, took him from it, and hanged him from a telegraph pole. The account describes a struggle before he was taken. The paper does not say whether jail officers resisted or handed him over.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Miller Sun (1905) reports that a mob took Bell from the Pierre jail at night and hanged him from a telegraph pole.
