Barrett Ryan Goedrich
Barrett Goedrich, 19, was remembered by friends as compassionate and congenial, someone who went out of his way to make sure others were doing well, often listened to his friends, played golf and dabbled in freestyle rap. He was held at the Victoria County Jail in Texas, where he was found in a jail detox cell with an unspecified medical condition, taken to a hospital and pronounced dead in San Antonio on August 18, 2016. A medical examiner later determined he died of a methadone overdose, while his mother, teacher Laura Goedrich, said he was not a habitual drug user and that his death was a freak accident. His mother has hired an attorney to look into the death, and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the sheriff's office and the Texas Rangers were investigating at the time of the earlier reports.
