Barger
Barger was taken from the Jackson County jail in Iowa on May 29, 1857, by several wagonloads of armed men, according to a correspondent for the New-York Daily Tribune, who wrote that the authorities offered no resistance. The men took him to a tree near Andrew and hanged him before a crowd the correspondent estimated at about a thousand. The account says Barger was very much affected and spoke a few words before he died.
