Baker

Baker, a man held in the Knoxville jail in Tennessee in September 1865, was taken from the jail by a crowd of men and hanged in the street, according to a Wheeling Daily Register report that gives the date as September 5, 1865. The Daily Gate City, reprinting a telegraphed report, said he was a young man and that he met death with great coolness. The Wheeling report says citizens took him from the sheriff and hanged him.
