Atiyana Willis
Atiyanna Willis, 18, of Forrest City, died on September 22, 2026, after a medical emergency while held at the Greene County Detention Center in Paragould, Arkansas. Her family's attorney said they want to learn exactly what happened to her. A federal lawsuit filed on behalf of her estate alleges that jail staff ignored obvious signs of medical distress and did not call emergency services, and that the sheriff's policies, including the use of licensed practical nurses outside their scope of practice, contributed to her death. Sheriff Brad Snyder fired nine jail employees after reviewing video and records, saying they failed to check on and assist her, and he has said he has no comment on the lawsuit's allegations. The Arkansas State Police are conducting an independent investigation, and an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death is pending.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed; neglect alleged). Sheriff Brad Snyder says she died after a medical emergency and fired nine jail employees for failing to check on and respond to her, while a federal lawsuit by her estate says jail staff ignored obvious signs of medical distress and failed to call emergency services.
Reported by: Greene County Sheriff's Office (Sheriff Brad Snyder) (the agency that held her); Estate lawsuit by Co-Special Administrators Victor Britt and Kimberly Britt (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: A federal lawsuit filed on behalf of Atiyana Willis's estate alleges that Greene County jail staff ignored signs of medical distress and failed to call emergency services, and no amount has been reported.
