Askari Abdullah Muhammad, 62, was executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison on January 7, 2014, where he had been held for many years. His four sisters visited him the day before, and a friend saw him earlier that day. The governor's office announced that he was pronounced dead that evening. A small group opposed to the death penalty protested outside.
