Ashley Hoath

36 years old · died June 6, 2026 · Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, Washtenaw County, Michigan

Ashley Hoath, 36, was a mother whose daughter, Anala, said she had turned her life around, stayed clean, earned a bachelor's degree from Jackson College, held a minister's license and planned to study trauma therapy. On June 6, 2026, Ashley was held at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Pittsfield Township, Michigan, when an officer noticed she was unwell and took her to the prison's health care unit. Medical staff sent her by ambulance to Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital, where she died several hours later. Her daughter said Ashley had no prior medical conditions, had been in a bathroom for much of the day, and that other women had asked guards for help for hours before she collapsed, and the family alleges medical neglect. The Michigan Department of Corrections said she was responsive when transferred, and the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled her death a suicide from aspirin toxicity, while the department's mortality review and a Michigan State Police investigation continue.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (disputed; neglect alleged). The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled she died by suicide from acute salicylate (aspirin) toxicity, but her daughter, Anala, disputes the overdose account and says other women asked guards for help for hours before she collapsed.

Reported by: Washtenaw County Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner); Michigan Department of Corrections (the agency that held her); her daughter, Anala, and family (family or their lawyers).
