Asbury Green
Asbury Green was held in the jail at Centreville, Maryland, in May 1891. According to a Baltimore Sun dispatch, about ten masked men took him from the jail shortly after 1 o'clock on the morning of May 12 and hanged him from a tree. Other accounts place the seizure in the same early hours, one describing a crowd that stormed the building, and they differ on the exact time and on how the men got in. Whether jail staff resisted, gave up the keys, or handed him over is not established by these accounts.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A masked mob took Asbury Green from the Centreville jail in Maryland and hanged him from a tree, according to the Baltimore Sun dispatch.
