Asaiah Germone Washington
Asaiah Germone Washington, 40, was a diabetic who needed insulin, and his wife, Tonette, and daughter, Jadah, describe him as a loving husband and father. On July 26, 2024, deputies found him and his cellmate unresponsive in their cell at the Sacramento County Jail, and both men were given Narcan; the cellmate was revived, but Asaiah died. His wife said that when they spoke with him that morning he sounded sluggish and not like his usual upbeat self, and the family disputes that drug use could explain his death and questions how an overdose could happen inside the jail. The sheriff's office has said his cause of death is still under investigation, with toxicology results expected to take months, and the family says the sheriff's office has not contacted them.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed). The sheriff's office says he was found unresponsive in his cell with his cellmate, both were given Narcan, and the cause is still under investigation; his wife disputes that an overdose is likely and his family questions how an overdose could have happened in the jail.
Reported by: Sacramento County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); his wife.
