Arthur Young
Arthur Young was a 30-year-old Black man held by officers in Perry, Florida, in December 1922. According to a 1922 Macon News report, Sheriff Lipscomb was moving him to a jail outside Taylor County for safekeeping when a crowd overpowered the sheriff and took him. An Associated Press dispatch from the time likewise says a mob took him from officers during the transfer to another jail and lynched him, without naming who took part. Accounts say he was shot and his body was left hanging from a tree about seven miles from Perry, and the sheriff is reported to have been overpowered rather than handing him over.
