Arthur Rudy Martinez
Arthur Rudy Martinez, 65, died of cancer in 2014 while held at a prison in Spokane, Washington, about two months after he turned himself in with a terminal diagnosis so he could get medical treatment. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson later said DNA evidence linked Martinez to two unsolved killings of women in Atascadero, California, in 1977 and 1978. That claim was never tested in court because Martinez died, and it remains the sheriff's account.
