Artemio Gomez
Artemio Gomez, 40, was held at Kern Valley State Prison in California when other incarcerated people attacked him with weapons on June 11, 2021. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said officers used chemical agents to stop the attack and recovered two weapons made by other incarcerated people. The department said Gomez had multiple stab wounds, was taken to the prison's medical triage area, and was pronounced dead that evening. CDCR and the Kern County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death as a homicide.
