Armar Womack
Armar Womack, 64, from Delaware, died on January 21, 2022, after being held alone in a cell at the Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack in Queen Anne's County. Police said he was conscious and cooperative when he was arrested after a traffic stop on U.S. 301, and that he became unresponsive about two hours after arriving at the barracks. An autopsy, as reported by CBS News, attributed his death to cocaine intoxication complicating hypertensive cardiovascular disease, and an Attorney General investigation found that trooper reports understated his condition and that required checks were not done. The Queen Anne's County State's Attorney's Office decided not to prosecute, and the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division has not released the names of the officers involved.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The autopsy lists cocaine intoxication complicating hypertensive cardiovascular disease as the cause, and the Attorney General's investigation found that troopers did not do required checks and their written reports understated his condition.
Reported by: Autopsy (medical examiner or coroner); Maryland Attorney General's Office (outside investigators).
