Arcan Cetin
Arcan Cetin, 20, was found hanging in his cell at the Snohomish County Jail on Sunday evening, April 16, 2017, while he was awaiting the results of a mental competency evaluation. The sheriff's office and a Skagit County prosecutor said it appeared to be a suicide, and the medical examiner's finding was reported as suicide. His stepfather, David Marshall, said the family had been trying to get Arcan help for mental health issues, and a local hospital had sought to have him involuntarily committed, with doctors saying they believed he might harm himself. Family members, not officials, raised these concerns about the care he was given.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and the medical examiner ruled his death a suicide by hanging, and his family said he had psychiatric problems and that they had been trying to get him help for mental health issues.
Reported by: Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); medical examiner or coroner; Skagit County prosecutor Rosemary Kaholokula; his family.
