Antonio Marchesi
Antonio Marchesi, a fruit peddler, was held at the Parish Prison in New Orleans on March 14, 1891, when a mob forced its way into the building. Sources say the mob chased the men held there through the prison, beat them and shot them, and that Marchesi was among those killed. One account says police did nothing to stop the mob, and no one was ever prosecuted for the killings. A grand jury investigation followed, and the Italian consul became involved.
