Anton Myklebust
Anton Myklebust, 46, died on May 4, 2024, while held at Saguaro Correctional Center, a CoreCivic prison in Eloy, Arizona, where the Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation housed him. Pinal County prosecutors said in court documents and grand jury indictments that he was beaten and strangled in his cell. Six people have been charged in connection with his death, five of them with first-degree murder. The department's initial notice to the governor gave no cause of death, and the ACLU of Hawaii has said his death shows failures at the prison and has called for a federal investigation and for Hawaii to end its contract. The case is ongoing.
