Antley
Antley, an American Indian man, was one of four men hanged on the morning of December 19, 1890, in Missoula County, Montana. The Sacramento Daily Record-Union reported that he smiled and said goodbye to his friends before the hanging, and placed the hanging at a courthouse. The Poplar Standard, writing in 1925, said the sheriff of Missoula County carried out the hangings in the jail yard, so the place of the execution is recorded differently across these accounts. None of these accounts describes any objection to his execution.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: 1890 newspaper account of the Missoula County hangings (reporters); 1942 Herald-News retrospective (reporters).
