Anthony Wainwright
Anthony Wainwright, 54, was executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke on June 10, 2025, and was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. His wife, Samantha, and his spiritual advisor, Reverend Jeff Hood, were with him in his final hours, and Hood said Wainwright had grown a great deal through years of ministry. In a statement he wrote that Samantha was the love of his life. His lawyers argued that prenatal exposure to Agent Orange caused brain damage and intellectual disability and that his trial and his choice of lawyer were unfair, but the Florida Supreme Court rejected these claims and the U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-minute request to halt the execution.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. His lawyers argued that prenatal exposure to Agent Orange caused lasting cognitive and behavioral damage and that he had brain damage and intellectual disability; the Florida Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court rejected those claims.
Reported by: Florida Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); Vocal.media roundup of 2025 U.S. executions (reporters); his lawyers.
