Anthony Fennick
Anthony Fennick, 23, was a doting father to his 2-year-old daughter, whom he called Precious, and his family described him as funny and generous. He was held at the Flagler County jail in Florida from late December 2018, and by early February he had high fevers and a seizure, and was taken to AdventHealth Palm Coast, where he died on February 9, 2019 after life support was withdrawn. His family says jail nurses dismissed his complaints and that he was not seen by a doctor before a scheduled visit, while Armor Correctional Health Services, the jail's health contractor, says he received appropriate and timely care and placed two nurses on paid leave. The medical examiner linked his fatal stroke to a blood clot in the brain and a possible allergic reaction to medication, and the sheriff's office reportedly found no criminal wrongdoing. The cause and responsibility for his death remain disputed.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The medical examiner listed a blood clot and stroke linked to chronic dehydration and a Bactrim allergy; his family says jail nurses dismissed his symptoms and delayed care, which Armor Correctional Health Services disputes.
Reported by: medical examiner or coroner; Flagler County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); family.
