Anthony Alphonso Sanchez III
Anthony Alphonso Sanchez III was handcuffed in the back of a Colorado State Patrol vehicle in Otero County on June 20, 2023. According to the State Patrol, he got into the front seat, and the vehicle crashed into a stopped commercial vehicle on Highway 50 and caught fire. He was taken to a hospital, where he died of injuries the State Patrol attributed to the crash. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the State Patrol are investigating how he got past the vehicle's anti-theft measures and whether the troopers followed policy.
