Angelo Smith Jr., a 37-year-old Black man, died on September 17, 2021, while held at Pamlico Correctional Institution in Bayboro, North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said he died by suicide. The department said he was found unresponsive at the prison that Friday.
