Andrew Brown
Andrew Brown was in the custody of constables who were taking him to a justice of the peace in Simpson County, Mississippi, in late December 1895, when a mob seized him from the officers. A dispatch in The San Francisco Call reported that the mob hanged him from a tree and shot him, and that the officers were unable to prevent it. The Port Gibson Reveille called the killing a cold-blooded murder and wrote that such crimes shame the state for as long as they go unpunished.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took Andrew Brown from constables and hanged and shot him, according to a Port Gibson Reveille editorial and newspaper reports from 1895.
Reported by: Port Gibson Reveille (reporters).
