Ammarin Tunstall
Ammarin Tunstall was 35, a father, brother and son whose cousin remembered him as a loving man who was always there for his family. On the afternoon of March 30, 2026, Monroeville police officers took him into custody after pulling him from a wooded area, and video shows two officers dragging him. By the time he reached the Monroe County Detention Facility he was unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the county hospital. The police chief said he was taken in without incident, but his family says officers pepper-sprayed him and used a Taser on him repeatedly. The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is looking into his death, a state representative has asked the attorney general to investigate, and the cause of death has not been released.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed). His family says officers pepper-sprayed and repeatedly Tasered him, while the Monroeville police chief says he was taken into custody without incident; the autopsy results have not been released.
