Amer Green
Amer Green was held in the Carroll County jail in Delphi, Indiana, in October 1887. Early on October 22, a mob of about 200 men broke into the jail, forced the locks, and took him from his cell, with the sheriff and one deputy present. The mob drove him toward Walnut Grove and hanged him from a tree there. Accounts from the time differ on whether the sheriff refused to hand over the keys before the doors were forced, and a 2024 local article says he could not stop the mob. One 1887 report says the sheriff had taken no special precautions against trouble.
