Amber McLaughlin

49 years old · died January 3, 2023 · Potosi Correctional Center, Missouri

Amber McLaughlin, a transgender woman, was described by a friend as painfully shy, someone who came out of her shell after deciding to transition, and who always had a smile and a dad joke. The State of Missouri executed her by lethal injection of pentobarbital at Potosi Correctional Center on January 3, 2023, after the governor denied her clemency request earlier that day. Her attorney and supporters said that her childhood trauma, mental health issues and gender dysphoria were not heard by the jury at her trial. In a final statement she wrote, "I am a loving and caring person."

Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. Her attorney and supporters argued that her childhood trauma, mental health issues and gender dysphoria were not heard by the jury at trial.

Reported by: State of Missouri (the agency that held her). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held her.
