Amanda Freeman
Amanda Freeman, 32, was held at the Oklahoma County Jail in February 2017. She began having seizure-like episodes on February 10, and detention officers said a contract nurse tried to perform an exorcism on her instead of treating her, while the nurse denies doing so. Freeman was found unresponsive in her cell the next morning, February 11, and an autopsy attributed her death to an acute coronary event due to methamphetamine use. Officers and a sheriff's lieutenant said the nurse was stopped and the jail barred her from the facility. The district attorney was reviewing whether to charge the nurse with delaying treatment.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). The autopsy attributed her death to an acute coronary event linked to methamphetamine use, while detention officers said a nurse tried to perform an exorcism instead of treating her seizures, which the nurse denies.
Reported by: autopsy; Fox Carolina (reporters).
