Alton Coleman
Alton Coleman was executed by lethal injection on April 26, 2002, at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio, where he was held under a death sentence. His lawyers argued that he had been abused as a child, that his brain was affected by his mother's drug and alcohol use during pregnancy, and that he had not been adequately represented. Prison officials used closed-circuit television to show the execution to additional witnesses. According to the account, the warden pulled the microphone away after the 23rd Psalm was recited to him, before he lost consciousness.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. His lawyers objected to the execution, arguing he was abused as a child, that his mother's drug and alcohol use during pregnancy affected his brain, and that his lawyers had not adequately represented him.
Reported by: State of Ohio (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
