Alteriq Pleasant, 27, died at Mount Sinai Hospital on August 2, 2022, after a medical emergency at Cook County Jail on July 21, where he was being held before trial. His mother, Vicki Willis, disputes that account, saying he had marks on his neck and broken wrists, and she said he did not deserve this.
