Alfredo Lopez
Alfredo Lopez, 54, was from Sunset Park in Brooklyn. The New York Daily News reported that he was found hanging by an electrical cord at Great Meadow Correctional Facility in January 2015, and that the death was being treated as a suicide. He was diabetic and had extensive nerve damage, and he repeatedly said a medical condition made it hard for him to produce urine for tests. According to the report, he was repeatedly placed in solitary confinement and was never added to the facility's list of prisoners with that condition. In a suicide note addressed to state health staff, he wrote that he could not take the abuse anymore and asked that his blood and DNA be checked, saying his system had been clean.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). His suicide note said he could not take the abuse anymore, and he repeatedly said a medical condition made it hard to produce urine for tests, yet he was repeatedly placed in solitary and never listed as having that condition.
