Alfred Morris
Alfred Morris died of stab wounds on August 20, 2011, at Hays State Prison in Trion, Georgia, where he was held. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said he was preliminarily believed to have been killed by stab wounds and that more than one person may have attacked him, outside the mess hall around 4:45 a.m. A later Georgia Supreme Court opinion, as reported by the Rome News-Tribune, placed the attack in the prison yard after an earlier confrontation and reversed one man's murder conviction over a shackling issue, while finding the evidence sufficient.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. GBI Agent Greg Ramey said the man was preliminarily believed to have died from stab wounds and that more than one person may have attacked him, and the Georgia Supreme Court opinion says a group of inmates attacked him in the prison yard.
Reported by: Georgia Bureau of Investigation (outside investigators); Georgia Supreme Court opinion (court).
