Alex Mercado
Alex Mercado, 31, died on November 10, 2025, at Calipatria State Prison in Imperial County, California. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says he was attacked in an exercise yard by two other people held there, and that staff used chemical agents to stop the assault and restrained those involved. He was taken to an outside medical facility, where he was pronounced dead. CDCR is investigating the death as a homicide, and the Imperial County Coroner will determine the official cause of death.
