Alex Jimenez

34 years old · died April 2020 · Clatsop County Detention Center, Clatsop County, Oregon

Alex Jimenez, 34, was taken to a hospital after being arrested in Warrenton in April 2020, and according to a Disability Rights Oregon report he was cleared for jail while still in a police vehicle. The report says deputies held him face down on the concrete at the Clatsop County Jail sally port, and that he stopped breathing. He was revived briefly but died later that day at a hospital. The county medical examiner ruled the death accidental, citing toxic effects of methamphetamine, fatty liver and recent use of conductive electrical devices as contributing factors, while the report's author says he was too sick to be held in jail and that the restraint was dangerous.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The medical examiner ruled the death accidental from toxic effects of methamphetamine, with fatty liver and conductive electrical device use as contributing factors, while Disability Rights Oregon says he was too sick to be jailed and that the face-down restraint at the sally port was dangerous.

Reported by: Medical examiner, as cited in the Disability Rights Oregon report (medical examiner or coroner); Disability Rights Oregon (advocates).
