Alberto Petrolino
Alberto Petrolino, 50, died on July 28, 2015, while held at the San Francisco County Jail in San Francisco, California. His family says he struggled with alcoholism and depression, and his mother, Nina Petrolino, said she could not believe he would take his own life. His sister Angela had tried to warn the sheriff's office that he was suicidal, and after he was taken into custody following a family report of suicide threats, he was placed in the general population. About three days later he hanged himself in a jail shower stall, and officials are investigating whether staff knew of his suicidal state and why he was not watched.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). The family and the public defender's office question whether jail staff knew he was suicidal and why he was not watched after he was placed in general population.
Reported by: news report; family and the public defender's office (family or their lawyers).
