Albert Ramirez
Albert Ramirez had been diagnosed with liver cancer when he was taken into the Fort Bend County Jail in early 2020. His sister, Esmerelda Trigo, has pressed for people held in jails to receive the cancer treatment they are promised. His family and lawyer, Bill Ogden, say he repeatedly asked for his cancer medication and did not receive it, and that he was found unresponsive and taken to a hospital, where he died on June 13, 2021. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office declined to comment, and a Texas Attorney General custodial death report lists the death as natural causes, a classification Ogden disputes.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The Texas Attorney General's custodial death report lists no cause, and the death is labeled natural, but his lawyer, Bill Ogden, says he repeatedly asked for cancer medication at Fort Bend County Jail and did not receive it.
Reported by: Texas Office of the Attorney General custodial death report; Bill Ogden, the lawyer on the case (family or their lawyers); his family.
